This special MixInspired will take place during Mix Design Collective at Hilton Deansgate Manchester.
Who predicted coworking, who thought that health and wellbeing would have such a systemic impact on workplace design?
Imagine new business models for our office buildings without energy bills; taking the coworking business model further, genuinely merging office and residential.
Are some of the bigger cities going to thrive without a radical approach to how workers get into the place of work and what will those changes mean for the future of the workplace (a recent survey estimated that flexible working could contribute £146bn to the UK economy by 2030)?
Gradually, over the years, the workplace has become more complex. Email systems have become huge, complicated monoliths, databases require vast amounts of management and finance systems are a tool upon which the operation of the entire company depends.
So whilst, on the face of it, some would say the workplace has changed very little – they are wrong. At the very least there is a new breed of business leader that has a very different view to those who are now in the 50s. The bigger question is what’s next and who is going to predict the next big thing? The developers? The occupiers? Someone else?
